Students from households that qualify by income to receive free or reduced-price lunch at their school. Economically disadvantaged students have historically been identified as those from low-income families, earning below 185 percent of the federal poverty line.

Students on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) are those students who are receiving special education services. For the purposes of the Nevada School Performance Framework, only students who were on an IEP at the time of testing factor into the IEP calculations.

English-language learners (ELL) are students who are unable to communicate fluently or learn effectively in English, who often come from non-English-speaking homes and backgrounds, and who typically require specialized or modified instruction in both the English language and in their academic courses.

Zoom Schools have unique needs that require additional resources to help students. Zoom Schools have the highest percentage of students who are limited English proficient and are the lowest performing academically. Additionally, the schools receiving these funds are in need of programs to boost academic achievement. Zoom Schools will be monitored closely to ensure efforts effectively provide students with valuable individualized assistance and instructional time (source: CCSD).

Victory Schools were designated as Victory Schools by the Department of Education based on the highest poverty zip codes and the star rating (1 or 2 stars) of schools for the preceding school year. Schools receive additional funding to address the unique academic and social needs of their student population.

Rising Star schools are identified by the Nevada Department of Education and meet the following criteria:

• Based upon the most recent annual report of the statewide system of accountability for public schools, the public school is an elementary school or middle school that was rated in the lowest 5 percent of elementary or middle schools in the State in pupil achievement and school performance for the most recent school year.
• All 1- and 2-star schools that scored less index points than the year before.
• Or, the public school is a high school that had a graduation rate for the immediately preceding school year of less than 60 percent.

Shining Star Schools have significantly outperformed the State average in serving ALL kids, with an emphasis on closing the opportunity gap. A shining star school is a high-performing school serving a high percentage of students who quality for Free or Reduced Lunch (FRL) (at least 75% of students eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch, 50% for high schools) (source: NV Department of Education).

Your District Zoned School is your neighborhood public school. Students are zoned to public schools based on where they live. The student body represents the diversity of your local community. District zoned schools serve all students without restrictions.

Public Charter Schools are public schools of choice and are open to all students. They operate with freedom from some of the regulations that are imposed upon district schools, yet are held accountable for academic results and student achievement. Parents submit applications directly to the charter schools they want their children to attend. If a public charter school receives more applications than the number of seats it has available, the applications are drawn at random through a blind lottery.

Nevada ASD charter schools partner with communities to provide vibrant, high-quality, in-neighborhood alternatives for students in the State's chronically underperforming schools. The schools serve students in neighborhoods with few choices and can be zoned or paired with a school to be an alternate option in a zone.

A public Magnet School has a specific area of focus, such as math, fine arts, science or health. Entry to an elementary or middle school magnet program is interest-based. These programs are tuition-free, and will provide transportation for students if they live in the transportation zone. Magnet Schools are available for grades 1-10. and can be zoned or paired with a school to be an alternate option in a zone.

Entry to a CTA program can be criteria, performance and/or interest-based. Parents of interested students must submit an online or paper application on or before the annually specified deadline, typically in late Fall. Students must meet the minimum qualifying criteria in order to be considered in the lottery process. If there are more qualified applicants than there are seats available, a computerized random lottery will be used to select students.

Select Schools are a new district school choice option for families. Students can choose from one of five (5) high schools that offer outstanding Career and Technical Education programs of study as well as many Advanced Placement and other specialized programs. Students that live within the designated transportation zone of the school that they choose will receive transportation.

Targeted Support and Improvement Schools (TSI) meet designation criteria under Nevada's federally approved Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan. All Indicators in the Nevada School Performance Framework have multiple Measures and each Measure is disaggregated by 10 subgroups (American Indian, Asian, Black, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Multi-Race, Caucasian, English Learner, Students With Disabilities, Economically Disadvantaged Students). TSI schools have low performing subgroups in multiple Measures for at least two years in a row. The TSI Schools list identifies schools eligible for supports and interventions. TSI schools cannot receive a rating higher than 3-Stars in the year of initial designation.

The number of 11th grade students who are ready to go to college without having to take remedial classes that do not count towards college credit. An ACT score of 22 is a baseline for college readiness without a student needing to repeat high school work once they get to college.

School Climate is assessed at the school level via a survey provided to all students in Nevada. The survey is administered by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) on behalf of the Nevada Department of Education. The survey was administered in Fall of 2020, and therefore reflects the student experience of 2019-2020 school year, prior to COVID-19. The NV-SCSEL asks students questions about the environment and conditions for learning in their schools with four main categories:

• Cultural and Linguistic Competence tells us whether students feel that adults at school show that they care and respect the values, history, language, and experiences of students from different backgrounds;
• Relationships tells us whether students feel that the positive interactions between adults and students create a welcoming and trusting environment for kids to learn;
• Emotional Safety tells us how comfortable kids feel at school expressing their feelings, trusting peers and adults, and taking risks; and
• Physical Safety tells us if kids feel safe from violence, theft, harsh punishment, and weapons at school.

This is the total amount of money spent per student (per pupil) this year. This number includes federal, state, and local funds, which are inclusive of grants, appropriations, and categoricals like Zoom and Victory.
